I liked the outline. It was conducive to self reflection. Since I do not share the same country as the writer, some of the discussions/topics were not applicable to me. However, I would still say it is a good read because of the deep insights the author provided relating to the issues ministers' wives face, most especially in the area of trying to conform to certain rules and standards. I feel liberated, confident that God has called me to be unique in this role I share with many other women in God's kingdom all over the world.
Wonderful advice for the wives of pastors and ministers. This book has great practical suggestions for those just starting in the ministry, and some great ideas for those who have been married to a minister for a long time. It is encouraging and helpful. If you have someone in your life who is in the ministry I'd recommend this book, or even if you are not in the ministry but want to understand more of what minister's wives feel. I'd also recommend it to the spouse who is in the ministry so that he/she might better understand what their spouse feels.
We are in ministry and my wife was looking for advice from a preacher's wife. Lisa McKay had a funny yet no-nonsense approach to dealing with all of the complicated facets of day to day life and situations that a preacher's wife can go through. My wife was totally able to relate to everything in the book. She read the book in just a few days. She laughed and nearly cried while reading. I would say that she walked away feeling a little more normal about what she's up against as the preacher's wife. Great book! I think that it may be a must-read for all of those whose husband is "the man" at the church. If you want something real, genuine, and authentic about ministry life as "the wife", then get this book.
I bought this book as a gift for my wife. My wife has found that Lisa McKay is a kindred spirit. The book is written seriously, but is laced with humor. The bottom line premise is that the pastor's wife doesn't stop being who she is because her husband is in ministry. The author is open about her own personal growth as the wife of a pastor. She admits it's not always easy being married to a man who has a "God call" on his life. Great gift for any woman married to a man in Christian service.
I actually bought this one as a gift. I received the much needed encouragnment from this book. If you are marrying into the ministry or your husband had newly surrender... this is a MUST HAVE!!! Ive worked in ministry for 7 years but this year i marry my ministry partner and become a "preachers wife". This book reminded me of who go made me and taught me how to swim through the many thing i will have to endure. THANK YOU, LISA MCKAY!
I am not a pastor's wife although my husband is a minister. I still enjoyed reading this book. It was filled with practical insight and usable tips. I would recommend it to lay people in addition to pastors' wives as Lisa shares great information that would benefit that group as well. I am considering it as a gift idea for my pastor's new wife.
Written for pastor's wives, there is good advice for all of us. We all deal with hurting people we need to treat all with kindness, love and grace.
Lisa McKay got me at "You Can Still Wear Cute Shoes..." Being a pastor's wife for 30 years and enjoying my high heels I knew I had to read this. She did not disappoint. Valuable insights for ministry wives of all ages and years. I always appreciate things said with humor as well and she delivered making it an absolutely enjoyable read. Thanks, Lisa!
