Good book fast paced, I was able to read this fairly quick.......the sequel to this is coming out in May 2013... keep an eye open for it. The characters were pretty good....all around good quick read ......get it today!

I'm on a Caroline Fyffe kick this week and I just noticed that I never reviewed this story, but have read it in 2012. Not acceptable!I have to say that I love every story this author writes, and this was a start to a new series which I'm loving a lot. This is one of those stories that brings a western town to life and introduces us to many of its citizens with an interesting plot and a fast pace.I adored the hero, Chase Logan, despite of his flaws. He had a hard task in front of him, which was made even harder when confronted with a dilemma our heroine had. Being an honorable man, he just rolls with it and decides to help Jessie with her problem. And speaking of Jessie, it took me a bit to warm up to her, but once I did, she showed herself to be strong and resilient woman with a purpose and a plan. God help anyone in her way!As both of them carry some secrets in their pasts, it is understandable that their romance takes some twists and turns, but in the end their happily ever after was worth it. Keeper for sure.Melanie for b2b

I liked this book for part of the story...A man who steps in to help a lady in distress is always a good start. However, I don't like it when the heroine is so young that she makes teenage girl decisions, which puts her and usually the hero in dangerous situations. Also the we have to get married because you were in my house alone and it would ruin my reputation bit just falls flat.Jessie's care and concern for Sarah and Jake was admirable and sweet and made her seem mature, but when it came to Chase, she was as insecure as a teenager and that just got old after a while.Overall it was a clean story and didn't have any detailed sex scenes. I guess I am just at the age where I rather have a more mature heroine.

I enjoy reading historical books about those who traveled west to settle the new frontier. This one certainly did not disappoint. The plot kept my interest throughout. You can't help becoming caught up in Jessie's life and those she loves. Ms. Fyffe descriptive writing helps the reader to see and feel this time period just as if they were there. It's simplicity is appealing, and the love story with it's ups and downs between Jessie and Chase is sweet. I highly recommend this book to those who like a poignant family story with hardships as well rewards. I' m excited to read the 2nd book in this series next!

This is the first of a 4 book series. I am currently reading the 4th book. As is typical of this type of book, the storylines are fairly predictable yet with an amount of appeal that keeps you reading. In this first book Jessie and Chase are forced to marry when it is discovered they've spent unchaperoned time in her home overnight, which is typical for books in this period. Amid a lie, untold secrets, adoptions, a relocation, the usual misunderstandings and mishaps, the couple makes it though it all. I listened to the audiobook version of this series. Two things to note1 there is a great deal of overlap from book to book. the lead characters from the previous book have a role in the all the books so we get to see how their lives unfold, children grow etc while focusing on the tribulations of the new lead characters. I really liked that. I find that missing from many series. I think one could read each book as a standalone but is more enjoyable read in order as a series.2 occasionally there was a bit of a contemporary feel to some of the wording that felt inappropriate for the time setting. Sorry, but I can't think of a specific example. I may not have noticed that had I read the books instead of listened to them. This is a good series that I enjoyed very much. Well worth my time and money.

What a great story! Chase pays a visit to Jessie a woman who was married to Nathan, a much older man, to tell her that Nathan had been killed. As he's planning to leave, a buggy pulls up and out comes a man with a young child by the name of Sarah and a boy Gabe, both from an orphanage. Prior to Nathan's death, he and Sarah were planning to adopt the little girl. Now that she was a widow, chances were that she would not be allowed to adopt the child after all. That is where Chase steps in. He follows Jessie's lead and agrees to fool the man into believing he is Nathan and married to Jessie. The child stays, the man leaves. The story unfolds after that.Chase stays on for one reason or another (no need for me to say why and spoil the story) and when a nosey woman from town finds out that he is staying with Jessie, although in a very platonic relationship, insists that they marry to save her reputation. Personally I wanted to be there to slap that nosey, controlling, opinionated woman....at first.I loved it how Chase and Jessie, by things that happened to them while living under the same roof, got closer and closer to each other and started to wish the marriage was not in name only. There was some conflict very near the end of the book but that was fine, it didn't last very long. I can't stand it when there are problems throughout (between the couples) and they aren't resolved until the very end. This story included an epilogue which is always nice because I don't like abrupt endings.I hope you enjoy/enjoyed this one as much as I did.
