Not quite what I was expecting. The first half of the book is math. The second half is writing just two sentences per page. And it's a small book.

My daughter is about to start third grade, and confessed to me that she was nervous about having to write so much. She's great with coming up with ideas and constructing sentences, but her handwriting is bad, and getting her ideas down on paper is a challenge for her. We ordered this book hoping that a little more practice over the summer will help her feel more confident and make writing a little easier for her.The book is excellent, and she really likes it. Each page has a few letters or words to practice, followed by a joke or riddle to copy. She is enjoying the fun of the joke, which helps her not get bored with practicing her handwriting. She's doing one page a day, and it's almost like a treat for her because she gets to learn a new joke. It's a very low pressure, fun way to practice her writing and prepare for the beginning of school without anxiety.

I bought this workbook for a 10 year old, after a family member who received a hand written thank you card pointed out the quality of her penmanship (gasp!). It was then that we realized they don't seem to focus much on it in school. We have another more scholastic book for working on letter formation, but she actually enjoys practicing with this joke book. The one thing that would be nice is if it were laid out so the flipbook could have a hand written joke on each side. As it is, you have to sacrifice one joke per page when assembling (hence the 4 stars). We will be sending the flipbook to the family member who brought the matter to our attention as a thank you.One note, before ordering I saw a couple reviews about it being half full of math and was hesitant because we have a whole other practice regimen for that. I don't know if they were different editions or misprints, but there is NO MATH in the copy I received.

I use this for my homeschool 1st grader. She loves learning jokes and play on words- I think that is pretty typical for this age so this book has been a lot of fun for her. She hasn’t complained once about it being boring. I’m actually wishing they had a second edition as I would for sure buy it.Because she’s my only student, I have her write in the book. We discovered that the way it is formatted, it was originally meant for replication because when you are finished with all the pages you can staple pages together to make your own joke book. However if you just use the pages from the book, every other page will be upside down! I don’t think I need to take off a star for my user error of course, just wanted to make a note for other consumers.

I home school and was on the hunt for something different for my 10 year old. She has already learned cursive and whatnot, but she is such a goof-ball and this was right up her alley. She still needed to work on her handwriting because I've noticed if she is wanting to do her work quickly she gets a little sloppy. So i firgured (even tho this is for a younger age) that i needed to have something like this added to her curriculum we already do just to help keep her on track......and its working..... The shipping was so fast and product is in perfect condition. Very pleased and would recommend this.

I home school my children and I tutor. My kindergartner is learning how to write, and some of the third graders I tutor struggle with writing clearly. I purchased several handwriting books hoping to find something that would catch their attention and make practicing more fun. The layout of this book is one line of 3 words at the top with space after each word to copy the word, the riddle or joke and answer to the riddle or joke under those words, and space to copy the riddle and answer on the bottom half of the page. There is no instruction about how to form the letters properly, no arrows showing which direction to move the pencil or dots showing where to start the letters, and no tracing practice, so this book isn't very helpful for my kindergartner. My tutor kids write huge letters and are developing the fine motor skills by practicing, but this book is discouraging because they run out of room for the 3 words at the top and there's too much open space at the bottom so the letters get bigger and further spaced out as they write. If the layout gave more room for each of the words at the top, the joke in dotted tracing letters, then space to copy the joke without tracing, then the answer in tracing letters, then space to copy the answer without tracing, this book would be more helpful for younger kids. As it is, this handwriting book would be best for 2nd-5th graders who already know how to properly form the letters and just need to practice proper spacing. Also, as other reviews have already mentioned, you can't make your own joke book out of this without making copies of every page.

I got this book for my kid to use to practice handwriting. The book is cute, although not very long (especially considering the price!). You’re meant to copy key words out of the joke rather than the whole joke itself. I don’t love that the pages are printed horizontally which definitely makes it harder to print neatly on the top half of the book, although you could always pull sheets out to work on a flatter surface.

My 7 year old has to write 5 minutes a night for homework, but they don't care what he writes. We bought this to give him something to write. He really likes learning all the jokes. While he still doesn't like writing, this book has made it possible to get his homework done. He actually finished the last page last night, so we will now be looking for another joke book similar to this one to keep going.
