Robert Carroll has taught Semitic languages and the Hebrew/English Bible for 30 years at Glasgow University, where he is Professor of Hebrew Bible and Semitic Studies.Stephen Prickett has held the Chair of English at the Australian National University in Canberra, and has taught at Sussex and Minnesota Universities and Smith College, Massachusetts. Thick and sturdy paperback. On the heavy side so you'll know you're carrying despite it's close to compact width and length dimension. Local Christian store doesn't carry so had to purchase through Amazon. Paid close to $7 (w/free shipping) for a used "acceptable" condition and it seems well worth it so far. One of the only versions of the King James translation that includes the deuterocanonicals/apocrypha. A must for other Catholics like myself who want a KJV in their bible family.
The product is fine just what I wanted paper back etc., more content than looks! However, the packaging was poor, as it came with the front cover bent out of shape along with a few of the front pages. Hence the 4 stars.
It's a very good 1611 KJV bible. It has a good font, very neatly done. It has the apocrypha included which is definitely a plus. However, it is a very heavy book and the words of Christ (YAHAWASHI) are not in red, which is disappointing. I bought the brown leather 1611 with the old English, while the old English one has the precepts/concordance, this one is does not but this one does not have the annoying old English. Just some pros and cons. All in all, this is a good bible to get if you want a decent 1611 KJV.
I added the Authorized King James version of the Bible to my Kindle collection so that I could read the Bible during travelling etc. This version includes the books of the Apocrypha. Using the Kindle is a great advantage as words can be selected and their meanings and definitions, links to Wikipedia and even a translator can be found with ease. This version contains an introduction that is absolutely worth reading, informative and well written notes to the Old Testament, Apocrypha and the New Testament, a glossary to the notes and a collection of maps.
1.) Every page looks like an old fashioned mimeographed copy of the original print version. YUCK!!!2.) TOC is NOT NAVIGABLE. YUCK!!!3.) VERY DISAPPOINTING for my 2nd purchase of an Oxford World’s Classic. My 1st purchase of an OWC was the Qu’ran. IT, by comparison was beautiful to view and VERY EASY TO NAVIGATE!!!Beware and preview this book well, before spending your money. There’s BETTER on Kindle.Just wish I could get a refund.No malice and sincerely -ALAN
This review is about the physical book, not the content. The binding is fine and the paper quality feels good, but the columns of text are tilted somewhat at an angle on some pages. The first copy I bought had the problem so bad I requested a replacement. Also, there is very little margin. I have a paperback KJV Bible from '84 that is better quality than this.
Outstanding weight for the size of the book. Light weight, opens and stays open well - so excellent for study. Maps great. Quality great.
A+Only issues is I could not find a Bible cover for this. They are too big in width or too small in height, kinda frustrating. It is a softcover so I am leary it will rip over time. (Opening and closing)It is convenient to have the Aphocrapha already in it. This avoids needing two books. Big Plus!
