The content is exactly what I was looking for, though I have yet to read through enough of the music to tell if this edition is basically accurate or significantly flawed in the transcriptions, key and time signatures, lyrics, rhythms etc. I will not comment on that.I will comment that the Kindle cloud version has TERRIBLE fidelity. Adjusting the type font does not increase the size of the notation/lyrics as it was if this was a text based document (it's based on images, probably bmp.'s or jpegs) Using the windows keys ctrl/+ to zoom the screen provides about a 120 DPI picture on a 26" high def monitor. This is freaking ridiculous. I bought the kindle edition because I sightread music off a tablet with a foot pedal. If I could read this like a PDF, I would make this book part of my daily sightreading and arranging practice.Even if I increased the window's zoom to the maximum prior to excessive pixilation or margin overlap, then screen-captured the songs and saved them as PDF's where I could freely adjust the zoom level, the pixilation makes it almost not worth the effort of converting screen captures into readable leadsheets.You cannot print from the kindle edition. I have a PDF printer where I can typically take any document and convert it to a PDF. (lightning PDF professional) it. The Kindle online functionality will not allow you to physically print or digitally print any song. If you're going to buy this book buy the print version
I really liked the collection of songs. I own several "fake books" and use them often. Typical of this style book, the plastic binding is a pain but it does lay flat. The plastic binding makes it easy to tear pages. Unlike other fake books, this one seems to be printed on a bit heavier paper which reduces the shadowing and bleed through that some books seem to have.
I read many reviews, stating this book has notes that are too small. I don't have any trouble seeing the notes. It has simple, but beautiful arrangements. I love this book! It is spiral bound, and it works well on my piano stand. I cannot find one bad thing to say about this book. So much fun, playing these songs, and soooooooooooo many to choose from! I love how i don't have to flip pages while i am playing. Great deal!
I'm a lifelong beginner guitar player (self-taught, been playing for 25 years or so)... I've owned a Christmas song fake book for many years, but I only break that out one month a year. I bought another couple of fake books in hopes that I would use them year round. So far so good. There are no finger diagrams in this fake book, as in my other fake book, but I have a printout of all the chords on the wall nearby so I can easily glace over at a chord if I don't remember how to finger it.Great song choice. It's bit challenging for me. But I have I have learned a few more chords using this book since I bought i a month or so ago.
I liked this fake book, 584 pages, although it is a bit heavy, but it does have a spiral binding which is good.The listings of the songs are excellent, both by song name & year and a separate listing for the Artist, plus a Chrono listing of all of the songs. The chord listing, notes, etc are sometimes small, however they are still legible in most cases.This book made me realize how much music that i was un-aware of from about the 1980's onward. I am more into the old standards and do like "JUST Standards REAL BOOK" fake book by Alfred publishers. However this POP ROCK Fake Book provides you with all of the other songs not listed in the JUST Standards book.
This book has a lot of the tunes that I've liked for years. The chords are about as accurate as any other fake book (mostly Ok), and the tune selection was very good. No matter which ones are included, there are always some that you want that are not there. The thing that keeps this book from getting the fifth star is the size of the print. Couldn't they make it a little smaller so that we could tape binoculars to our head to read it while playing? And don't even think about trying to read it in dim light.
I sat down and played the book from A-Z over a few days. At least 80% of the songs are playable by a beginner and intermediate pianist. Some of the arrangements with 4 and 5 sharps and flats are very challenging. Transposing some into easier keys would be a huge help. Also, in the effort to have 600 songs, the typeface is fairly small. I could handle it as a 60 year old, but I'm sure older folks will struggle a little. Still, I have been playing and enjoying many of the entries, especially obscure ones like Claire and Alone Again,Naturally. It saved me from buying the Gilbert O'Sullivan music book.I bought the Ultimate Pop/Rock Fake Book used, and I feel it was well worth the money. We use it at parties for name that tune competitions.
